Russia’s first Sci-Tech Challenge competition was held at the Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation on February 24, 2012. The event was organized by the Executive Management of Junior Achievement-Young Enterprise with the assistance of ExxonMobil Corporation. More than 100 students from the cities of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Pskov, Severodvinsk, Saratov, and the village of Staroye Dyomkino in Penza Region took part in the competition.

National Sci-Tech Challenge competitions are currently held in 9 European countries. The winners of regional competitions will meet at the International Finals in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on April 18-20, 2012.

The Sci-Tech Challenge competition took up one day and was held in a simulation exercise format. The teams were given a real life challenge that required innovative ideas and a creative approach. The announced theme of the competition stimulated a better understanding by the young people of the importance of technical science knowledge and encouraged them to use innovative ideas, be inventive, enterprising and be able to substantiate the practical application of their projects aimed at more effective use of energy resources.

The Challenge was developed by ExxonMobil experts and presented by Alexey Evstratov from Mobil Oil Lubricants, one of the Corporation affiliates.

Feedback:

«I found it extremely interesting to participate in the Sci-Tech Challenge educational program that stimulates the students’ interest in energy achievements. In my view, a project aimed to educate the next generation of scientists, researchers, and engineers is what Russian young people need most today. My family also supported my voluntary activity with enthusiasm ». Margarita Platonova, ExxonMobil Volunteer.

«I was genuinely happy to see the program to attract so many talented and self-motivated young people. They are all creative persons full of unusual ideas and, besides, they have demonstrated their ability to apply the knowledge they had acquired. It was difficult to identify the winner but the decision was fair». Larissa Agapova, ExxonMobil Volunteer.
